My dog is crazy about dog sweaters for winter and because of that so am I. I don’t remember when we discovered it but one day we had a sweater that we brought home from the store and when we showed it to him he willingly let us put it on and from that time on he is always ready to get a new sweater on. The fun part of having a dog that loves dog sweaters is that there are some many different kinds to get him. They are available in tons of colors, lot’s of different styles, and a whole variety of different types of materials. My dog’s favorite is a blue knit sweater. He has literally worn it to death. The good part of having his sweater wear out is that it gives us the excuse to go buy more.

I eat too many snacks, and that’s because I love junk food. I’m especially fond of candy. In fact, yesterday, I bought five bags of candy on a whim (don’t worry, I don’t eat all of it. I share it with my friends, and make sure to stretch out my personal candy consumption over a long period of time). I have the biggest sweet tooth of anyone I know, honestly. I really like salty, crunchy things too, though. Pretzels are awesome, as are chips, and sometimes beef jerky. If I didn’t watch myself, I could really become astoundingly overweight. Good thing I don’t eat very much, and mostly healthy food when I do.

A year ago, I moved to Iowa from Missouri to pursue an education. Living in Missouri was interesting, since I don’t like country music or consider myself a hick, yet I was surrounded by them full-time. Here, up north, I was hoping to get a little less of that. And I did, really. Except that Iowa is even lamer than Missouri, and Iowans know it. There’s even a t-shirt shop downtown here that sells shirts making fun of Iowa and Des Moines (and business is booming). That wouldn’t fly in Missouri, because Missourians don’t think they’re lame. Des Moines is a pretty nice city, though, if by nice you mean quiet. It’s pretty much an overgrown small town, which, having grown up in a small town, is fine and comfortable with me.

Right. As I mentioned before, I’m a college student, which means I regularly dress as casually as I will allow myself. Not pajamas, of course. I consider myself a bit above that, except in the dead of winter, when it’s four degrees outside and I simply put my clothes on over my pajamas for the extra warmth. No, I changed out of my pajamas this morning to don what is the closest to a uniform I have: a college T-shirt and jeans. No socks yet, no shoes. Just the t-shirt, jeans, and the two rings I wear every single day. It’s comfortable, sure, but sometimes I wish I could pull off something a little more put-together…

I think it’s a little sad when I say I like the “old” The Office. Not old in the sense that it was a different show, or old in the sense of a remake. I just liked it before Jim and Pam got together. I guess that’s a little bit of a lie, since I still like the show, but I miss the old days. I miss not having serious relationship drama in my comedy show. Arrested Development, on the other hand, should still be airing, because it was fantastic. Less ridiculous than The Office, but well-written. Simply, it was wonderful.

Every morning, at about eight o’ clock, I wake up. Eight o’ clock is sometimes negotiable, like today, when I don’t have class until ten. I spend a few minutes in the morning getting my things together, then I walk out my front door and go next door to go to class (it’s so nice living on campus). My classes are done by about 3:30. After that, I do homework intermittently while I wait for my friends to finish their classes, at which point we can all go to dinner together. Sometimes, I go to meetings in the evening or volunteer somewhere, but when I don’t, I’m generally hanging out in my friends’ rooms and watching movies or playing Call of Cthulhu.

For about six years running during middle school and high school, I went every summer to a camp for gifted kids at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. If you’ve ever been to Springfield, you know it’s really nothing special – just a semi-southern college city – but because of that camp, I have a special attachment to the city and to the college, even though I don’t go there and don’t even live in Missouri anymore. The thing is, when I was at camp, I was surrounded by people who talked like I did, who thought like I did, who got my jokes (and I got theirs) and who liked me and wanted to spend time scribbling on posters with me at two in the morning. I’ve made some lifelong friends there. Anywhere in the world can be enjoyable when something like that happens.

I have a couple of hobbies, some school-related, others decidedly not. For one, I like Japan. I like Japanese comics, Japanese film, and I’m in the process of learning the Japanese language. I also like playing piano and video games, but I don’t play them as often as I used to. Now, I’m more busy with school work. I also really like to read, which comes in handy at university. In fact, I have about three hundred pages to finish in four days’ time – then I’m going to discuss the book with the president of the university. Oh, the joys of being underprepared. I also like traveling (I love flying, but hate airports and planes), drawing (fun fact: I thought about majoring in fine art, now I’m a microbiology major), and cooking.

Vaccination of your dogs is crucial to their health. There are several, very real, diseases that your dog can contract. One of them being that Canine Parvovirus. This virus is transmitted through feces of infected dogs. Transmission is unfortunately, very easy. If your unvaccinated puppy or immuno-compromised adult dog in any way comes in contact with the infected feces, serious illness or even death can occur. The symptoms include diarrhea (often with blood), vomiting, lethargy, impedance, and the lack of desire to drink. If the puppy is not seen promptly by a Veterinarian when the symptoms occur, the mortality rate is very high. Once brought to your local Vet, your puppy still only has a 50-50 chance at survival. The only way to help prevent this virus is to vaccinate. The vaccination is called a DHLPP, or DHPP. If the puppy has 3-4 of these vaccines spaced 3 weeks apart, your puppy is protected. So, with a happy, healthy puppy, you can get your puppy a costume. Just make sure the label says large Halloween costumes for dogs to avoid any danger.
