Business Casual

Right. As I mentioned before, I’m a college student, which means I regularly dress as casually as I will allow myself. Not pajamas, of course. I consider myself a bit above that, except in the dead of winter, when it’s four degrees outside and I simply put my clothes on over my pajamas for the extra warmth. No, I changed out of my pajamas this morning to don what is the closest to a uniform I have: a college T-shirt and jeans. No socks yet, no shoes. Just the t-shirt, jeans, and the two rings I wear every single day. It’s comfortable, sure, but sometimes I wish I could pull off something a little more put-together…

  • I Long for the Old Days (the Recent Ones, Anyway)

I think it’s a little sad when I say I like the “old” The Office. Not old in the sense that it was a different show, or old in the sense of a remake. I just liked it before Jim and Pam got together. I guess that’s a little bit of a lie, since I still like the show, but I miss the old days. I miss not having serious relationship drama in my comedy show. Arrested Development, on the other hand, should still be airing, because it was fantastic. Less ridiculous than The Office, but well-written. Simply, it was wonderful.

  • Day in, Day out

Every morning, at about eight o’ clock, I wake up. Eight o’ clock is sometimes negotiable, like today, when I don’t have class until ten. I spend a few minutes in the morning getting my things together, then I walk out my front door and go next door to go to class (it’s so nice living on campus). My classes are done by about 3:30. After that, I do homework intermittently while I wait for my friends to finish their classes, at which point we can all go to dinner together. Sometimes, I go to meetings in the evening or volunteer somewhere, but when I don’t, I’m generally hanging out in my friends’ rooms and watching movies or playing Call of Cthulhu.

  • Where It’s At

For about six years running during middle school and high school, I went every summer to a camp for gifted kids at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. If you’ve ever been to Springfield, you know it’s really nothing special – just a semi-southern college city – but because of that camp, I have a special attachment to the city and to the college, even though I don’t go there and don’t even live in Missouri anymore. The thing is, when I was at camp, I was surrounded by people who talked like I did, who thought like I did, who got my jokes (and I got theirs) and who liked me and wanted to spend time scribbling on posters with me at two in the morning. I’ve made some lifelong friends there. Anywhere in the world can be enjoyable when something like that happens.
